We are always asked lots of questions about hot tubs! Here we answer a few of the most common ones. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Do you need planning permission for a Hot Tub?

Planning permission is not normally required for items of a temporary nature like a hot tub or swim spa, however, if you live in a listed property or an area of outstanding natural beauty,  or a conservation area, we would recommend you seek advice from your local planners before installing your pool or spa.

What type of base is required?

The best base is 3-4’’ concrete.  Also, a well constructed decking or patio can accommodate a hot tub

What electrics are required?

Most Hot Tubs will run on either 13amp , 20amp or 32amp supply.

We recommend that a 32amp supply is used as you may wish to upgrade Hot Tub in the future.

We always recommend that your electric supply for Hot Tub is installed by a qualified electrician.

Do you leave the Hot Tub on all the time?

Yes, you should leave your hot tub on all of the time. Hot tubs are designed to always be switched on and it is more economical to keep the water hot than it is to heat it up from cold each time you want to use it.

It will also provide frost protection on your Hot tub over the winter.

How much does a Hot Tub cost to run?

This depends on the construction of the Hot Tub but generally the more money you spend on purchasing your Hot Tub, the cheaper it can be to run.  On average it is £5 – £30 per week.

What temperature should the Hot Tub be on when not in use?

By putting Hot Tub into sleep mode it will maintain temperature 10 degrees C lower than normal run temp, saving on energy.

Does the water stay in the Hot Tub all the time?

Hot Tub water is usually changed every 3-4months depending on usage and environment.

How long should a filter last?

Artesian Hot Tubs use top quality filters and as long as you wash your filter out once a week and soak in a filter cleaner once a month, or when required, the normal filter should last 1yr – 18 months.  The disposable filter on our Island / Elite range should be changed every 4months.
